Infopreneuring - Creating The Life Of Your Dreams As An Infopreneur
As I started to write this, I was 26,000 feet up in the air having fun with my first time using wifi on a flight from Chicago back to my temporary digs in Tampa. I love flying because it's a great opportunity to let go of the baggage in your mind (your real bags are stowed anyway), and be open to new ideas.
The idea for pitching my boss to be my company's first-ever telecommuter occurred inflight years ago.
The title for my latest book What You Know Is Worth More Than You Know™ - Achieving The Life You Were Meant To Have By Making Money From What YOU Know! popped into my head in flight. And the idea for this blog post just came to me.
You see, this past week is an example of how I truly live the life of my dreams through infopreneuring.
No, I don't have a fancy house (in fact I'm voluntarily homeless at the moment, staying with family while my husband and I decide where to go next after selling our house in Vegas).
No, I don't have a fancy car (but I do miss my Ranger and Mustang convertible that are still in storage in Vegas).
No, I'm not flying back from some exotic trip (but I could on a moment's notice).
I could afford those things, but for me, going out on my own as an entrepreneur and infopreneur was never about any of that. What I have is worth a heck of a lot more.
I have complete freedom.
Last week, my husband, being the wonderful man that he is, and knowing I was miserable in the heat and humidity of Florida, and looking to chill out--literally, surprised me with a ticket to accompany him on a business trip to Chicago for 8 days.
Did I have to ask the boss for time off? Nope! That’s because I only had myself to answer to, and generally I’m quite good about granting my requests for time off.
Did I lose out on making any money while I was away? Nope! On the information products side of my infopreneuring, orders for my book What You Know Is Worth More Than You Know! continued to come in while I was traveling, and new members of my What You Know Is Worth More Than You Know Coaching Club still walked in the virtual door.
On the information services side of the business, I let my private Coaching and Marketing freelance clients know of my hiatus, and made myself available for urgent needs. This ended up not taking more than a few minutes from time-to-time during the whole time I was away, and it was worth it for the nice fat monthly amounts they pay me.
Was I able, after a nice long walk in the crisp air, to relax in the middle of the afternoon using the hotel's whirlpool, and look out on a Corporate office building across the way and think how blessed I was to be able to do this while others were working? Yup!
Hey, they have choices too. I’ll bet out of that entire 40-story building, you could probably find less than 10% of the people who had some sort of sideline business—infopreneuring or not—working on the side as their Plan B. That minority will eventually be able to get their freedom too if they stick with it (unfortunately few do), the others—I wish them the best. A small percentage will actually be happy in their jobs and manage to dodge being laid off at some point. The rest will be wishing for, and not acting on their dreams of telling their boss to take this job and shove it, and they will be stuck in work hell or involuntarily booted out the door through a layoff when they least expect it.
Now, of course I do work. As an infopreneur, I work on new original content information products and services. I work on new marketing strategies. I work on coaching others, and for a select few, doing the work for them as a retained freelancer in infopreneuring and marketing. But with each new offering I set into motion, I work less and get to play more. I am the master of my own fate, and choose how I spend my time--the most precious commodity of all. Which all adds up to living the life of my dreams as an infopreneur.
I didn't start out being able to do this full-time. I was one of the less than 10% who was working their dream and not just wishing for it. Infopreneuring was my sideline "Plan B" when I worked in the Corporate World. And given the recent news headlines that talk about all the jobs that are never coming back, even when the good economic times come again, isn't it time you decided to get your "Plan B" in gear? Even if you love your job (and still have one), wouldn't you like to call your own shots and truly live the life of your dreams someday soon?
Uh, huh, I thought so.
