Many people I come into contact with who are interested in making money from what they uniquely know (also known as original content infopreneuring), get stuck on one point--they have trouble identifying what they know!
I have the opposite problem, I have more topics that I'd like to develop than I have time for! But then again, I've got an infopreneur's mindset, and been creating content since I was 6 years old!
But for the rest of you, let's get you unstuck very simply with this thought--your life is unique content!
Now let's demonstrate this in action with a real-life example using something that recently occurred in my life that's ripe for becoming the core of a new information product and service line for me. It'll also explain why I've been on a bit of a hiatus from blogging and podcasting the past few weeks.
I just went through a very challenging 2010 personally, which centered around the fact that I was trying to do something about my living situation in Las Vegas. I was getting antsy to move on and free myself from the shackles of a house my husband and I bought here as a way to help out some family members, which ended up in our hands during the worst possible real estate market.
It took a few months, but after two prior last-minute escrow fallouts, my Christmas present was the house finally sold a few days before that holiday. We stayed on for about a month after the close, and just recently moved stuff into storage and started staying in local extended stay hotels since we're not 100% sure where to hang our hats yet. It's fun--someone else cleans the bathroom and makes the bed, and I don't have to cook!
I'm a former real estate licensee in California and Nevada, so I sold my house myself for full price, without the MLS, and without paying a buyer's agent, using methods that would allow anyone else to do the same. That's information I know that others will value learning and will pay for in all the different ways that they might like to do so. So that's information product and service line/infopreneuring topic number one from this experience that I'll be working on.
This experience also has another content development possibility. There were a lot of emotional ups and downs, comic moments, amazingly stressful moments and lots of life lessons learned. I'm also leaning towards monetizing this experience from a creative, slice of life point-of-view. It may not have the money making power of the scenario above, but maybe I can sell the movie rights :)
So from one life experience, I've got two original content concepts that I can make money from. What experiences from your life can be used to make money from what you uniquely know?
