While there are a zillion ways to promote a blog, let's look at a couple to get you started in part two of this infopreneur blog post (part one was 3 Tips On Starting A Blog Or Improving A Blog).
1. Publicize links when you have a new blog post in social media
You need to socially participate in social media and balance messages that are more business-oriented, with those that are more social-oriented. However, the easiest, and most accepted business-oriented messages are those that include links that point to free, valuable, original content, such as a new blog post.
And if you have a good back-end system for capturing those who check out your blog for an ongoing connection, by getting them to opt-in to your e-mail list, or at least your feed, now you're really leveraging that blog post for marketing purposes.
2. Comment on other blogs
A great way to enhance your on-line footprint is to comment on the posts of other blogs that your audience would read--the higher traffic, the better--leaving a linkback to your blog. Visitors to that other blog may very well check out your blog if you said something intelligent and helpful and not just "nice blog", and it will help leave a trail of bread crumbs for the search engines to find.
3. Turn your blog post into an article
You can rework your material from one or more blog posts and turn it into articles for a reputable web site such as EzineArticles.com or IdeaMarketers.comand have the articles direct people to your blog for more content (or any other site of your choosing that benefits your overall marketing). You're going to attract a different audience through the article directory sites, and those who legitimately publish your articles in their e-zines or on their web sites with links back to you.
4. Don't forget the obvious
If you have any other web sites, new media properties (like my infopreneur podcast), or information products, or even a business card, or e-mail signature, put the URL there. Everything else you control is another vehicle for letting people know about your other work--even if off-topic (for example, I tell people about my other blogs such as The Healthy Food Revieweven when they've come to check out a resource of mine in infopreneuring, marketing or social media, and vice-versa (see I just did it). This sounds simple, but I'll bet you've forgotten at least one of these avenues.
