Starting An Infopreneur Business When You Have A Day Job Is It OK
Not only is it okay to start an infopreneur business when you have a day job in most cases, in my opinion, it's mandatory! Everyone needs a Plan B! On any given day, your livelihood can be taken away from you and if you're not prepared you're in big trouble. This is one of the core messages of my infopreneur book What You Know Is Worth More Than You Know(TM) - Achieving The Life You Were Meant To Have By Making Money From What You Know!
The "Gold watch" days of years past are gone for good. And the sooner employees realize that, the
better!
In both challenging economic times like we have now, where the "C" levels of companies make sure they get theirs, and then do mass layoffs to pay for their incentives, and even in good times (where mergers, changes in technology, office politics, etc. can still cause you to lose your job), you have to have a little something on the side for yourself. That "little something" is an infopreneur business.
Your infopreneur business may be something that remains a nice sideline, or it may even be something that could eventually replace your day job income, but I believe it is an essential step.
That said, be sure to read any employment agreement you've signed for rules regarding who owns what if you develop intellectual property especially (even if on your own time), conflicts of interest or specific policies that forbid you to have your own business.
Otherwise, I think every employee should also be an entrepreneur, and especially an infopreneur (an information entrepreneur)--one who creates original content information products and services based on their unique knowledge--as it's a very easy, flexible sideline business.
