Twitter newbie mistake #1 was discussed previously in my prior infopreneur blog post The Twitter Newbie Mistake You Must Correct Today), the other Twitter essential that many Twitter newbies overlook is having a web site or blog URL.
I'm not sure why anyone on this planet would overlook the opportunity to get a free linkback from a top social media site like Twitter, but it happens every day! I always check out who is following me on Twitter, and if there is no web site link I believe it's going to be hard for me to know much about this person or business. Hello? Isn't that the whole point of social media?
Now you might say "but Melanie, I don't have a web site or blog", to which I would say, "no maybe you don't, but I guarantee you have a URL somewhere that you can connect to your Twitter profile until you do have one." Where else do you participate online that will help people understand more about you?
You can link to your YouTube videos (I'll get there), Facebook, LinkedIn, EzineArticles--anything that you've already set up online that you don't mind others knowing about. If you don't have anything yet, go take two seconds and cut your teeth on a freebie blog platform like Blogger until you're ready for a more professional solution like the one I use.
And then after you've at least gotten a link to something up there on your Twitterprofile, give some serious thought to the idea that if you're spending some time online in social media anyway, why not make it an investment in your future? It's my fundamental belief that "everyone knows something that's worth something to others", and in these turbulent economic times, EVERYONE needs a Plan B.
Perhaps it's time you started moonlighting and learning the lay of the land when it comes to doing business online, before the axe falls on your livelihood! Or if it's already fallen, why not make your own job, or at least a side job to whatever "day job" you do next? And if you're already an entrepreneur of some kind, why struggle, when you can easily add another income stream to your current business?
In my opinion there's no better business to start, or add on, than one that is based on teaching others to benefit from your unique knowledge--infopreneuring. You can learn more about infopreneuring from my infopreneur FAQs CLICK HERE.
