How The Bush Unemployment Insurance Extension Helps Infopreneurs
The Bush unemployment insurance extension signed today will help over a million unemployed and soon to be unemployed people today. I look at that and think, that's all well and good, but the grim reality is the workplace has changed.
The reality is that there are many people over the last few years who have been forced out of the workplace for a variety of reasons, and don't even show up in those unemployment numbers anymore. People who have been forced into lesser jobs that have substantially reduced their standard of living that they once enjoyed through no fault of their own, or who have had to completely make their own job. Many of those people--especially professional and managerial level employees still struggle to make what they deserve based upon their years of expertise.
It's likely that many of the current unemployed and soon to be laid off, downsized, rightsized or furloughed face the same issue. I've been there twice myself.
So this isn't mean to be a downer. I hope what it will be what I like to call a "light bulb moment" of
empowerment for those of you kind enough to read this infopreneur blog post and pass it along to your friends and loved ones who could also benefit from this important insight.
There was a weight loss guru a few years back named Susan Powter whose core message was "Stop The Insanity!" I want you to think about stopping this workplace insanity.
How? If you are one of those unemployed people, or soon to be unemployed people who are going to be a beneficiary of the Bush unemployment insurance extension, of course you should do your best to look for a job. One great site is from Jason Alba called JibberJobber.com.
But at the same time, do yourself and your loved ones the biggest favor, and consider this "employment challenged" period of your life as a wake-up call for your future!
View the unemployment benefit insurance payment as not just a way to help tide you over until you get another job, view it as a federal government "grant",in essence, to start taking what you know and using it for your own benefit too. Start working towards having a side infopreneur business while you look for that next job. Take the time in-between your job hunting efforts and learn to leverage what you know through infopreneuring--making money from your own knowledge.
You can create your own, unique information products and services from the expertise you've acquired over the years, at a very low start-up cost. You can do this whether you like to write, speak, make videos, train, coach, etc. It may eventually help you make some decent supplemental income on the side once you do go back to work, or it may someday allow you to throw away the corporate ladder for good.
